School choice is gaining ground in Florida and Louisiana.
Florida’s governor has signed a sweeping $30 million expansion of the state’s popular scholarship program that will create educational opportunities for 6,000 more kids.
Andrew Campanella, director of communications and marketing at the Alliance for School Choice, said the money will be well spent.
“Students who attend public schools are actually learning more as a result of the increased competition because of school choice in Florida," he said.
Florida corporations contributing to school choice receive a 100 percent tax credit.
In Louisiana, the school-choice legislation now has the governor’s signature.
Campanella said the effort has widespread support.
“The bill was sponsored by a Democrat in the Senate and a Democrat in the House," he said, "and it was signed by a Republican governor.”
