Two doctors who had been helping notorious abortionist George Tiller perform late-term abortions in Kansas have agreed to stop, the day after Operation Rescue made their actions public.
Dr. Burtram Odenheimer, a neurologist certified in psychiatry, and the other doctor work at Wichita Clinic. The clinic does not perform abortions, and said it was unaware of the doctors' affiliation with Tiller.
“Wichita Clinic learned this morning that two Wichita Clinic physicians, including Dr. Burt Odenheimer, have in the past provided medical evaluations and second opinions for patients considering pregnancy termination," the clinic said in a statement. "Both physicians have volunteered to discontinue providing these services effective immediately.”
Under Kansas law, an unaffiliated second physician must verify a late-term abortion is necessary for the safety of the mother before it can be performed. Odenheimer is a clinical assistant professor with the Kansas University School of Medicine, where Tiller has served as clinical instructor for more than 25 years.
