Values Voter Summit 2008 has been named among the 20 events most crucial in determining the next president. The list from Cox News Service also includes the Democratic and Republican conventions and the anniversary of 9/11.
Values voters from across the nation will gather Sept. 12-14 in Washington, D.C., to hear from national leaders on pro-family issues. The fourth annual event is sponsored by FRC Action and co-sponsored by Focus on the Family Action, American Values and the Alliance Defense Fund.
"The future of our children and grandchildren hangs in the balance on Nov. 4," FRC Action President Tony Perkins said. "Will they inherit an America based on our Judeo-Christian heritage or will they inherit a secular, godless society where individual responsibility and freedom have disappeared?
"We are on an even more slippery slope, and we simply cannot afford to shirk our responsibility as citizens."
Sonja Swiatkiewicz, director of issues response for Focus Action, said the event will equip voters to defend life, marriage and religious liberties at the polls.
"There are many pressing issues that will motivate voters this November — gas prices, the war in Iraq and the health of our economy and society," she said. "Though those issues are important and deserve serious consideration, the issues values voters will be considering supersede issues of the pocketbook."
The conference will feature 18 breakout sessions, a concert by SonicFlood and a lineup of dynamic pro-family speakers, including Lou Dobbs, Chuck Colson, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
Alveda King, life advocate and niece of Martin Luther King Jr., and actor Stephen Baldwin also have joined the program.
Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain have been invited.
