Nearly Half of Americans Support Government-Mandated 'Balance' on Radio

A new poll from Rasmussen shows nearly half of Americans — 47 percent — want the government to force radio and TV stations to carry both perspectives on any important issue.

Congressional Democrats have threatened to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which was put in place by the Federal communications Commission in 1949. It was dropped as new technologies offered an abundance of sources for information.

Strangely enough, the Rasmussen survey found that 71 percent believe the current media environment allows almost any political view to be expressed.
