A federal court ruled Thursday that an Ohio public library violated the Constitution when it prohibited a religious group from holding meetings there.
The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) sued the Upper Arlington Public Library after Citizens for Community Values (CCV) was denied access to its meeting room. The space is available to community groups, but library officials banned the event Politics and the Pulpit because it contained "elements of religious services."
CCV is associated with Focus on the Family.
“Christian groups have the same First Amendment rights as anyone else,” ADF Legal Counsel Tim Chandler said. “The only wall that separates religious groups from public meeting rooms is the wall built by government officials who fail to understand the Constitution.”
