Planned Parenthood Takes Illinois Residents to Court over Protests

Planned Parenthood of Illinois filed a motion in circuit court Wednesday, claiming a lawsuit filed by a pro-life group is infringing on its free-speech rights.

Aurora, Ill., residents sued Planned Parenthood after it ran a full-page ad in the local newspaper claming the residents advocate violence and other criminal activity. The residents say the protests outside the Aurora abortion mega-clinic are peaceful.

The abortion giant, which claims the residents are trying to intimidate the clinic, is using a law intended to protect individuals and grass-roots organizations from being silenced by large corporations.

"The billion-dollar Goliath is trying to misuse a law intended to protect David," said Eric Scheidler, communications director for the Pro-Life Action League. "If this motion stands, Planned Parenthood would be getting away with labeling peaceful citizens as domestic terrorists. It would give them a license to lie."

The motion will be decided Friday.
