Canada has launched a public-awareness campaign to prevent women and children from being forced into prostitution as the 2010 Olympic Winter Games head to Vancouver.
Linda Smith, founder and executive director of Shared Hope International, said the effort needs to be intentional.
“They need to focus on domestic trafficking — children from within Canada and the U.S. who would be moved in for the Olympic Games," she said. "If America wants to stop our children from being used at the Olympic Games, we need to be very clear about tightening border security. They will move children across that border, which is pretty soft. "
Anyone who is aware of a child being held by traffickers should call 911, Smith said.
