A New York federal judge ruled this week that a Christian man arrested for sharing his faith on a college campus has a constitutional right to religious speech.
The Rev. Greg Davis, represented by the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), was arrested last year and charged with trespassing for sharing his faith and distributing tracts at Schenectady County Community College. He was acquitted, then sued the school.
“Choosing to exercise one’s First Amendment rights in a public place, such as a college campus, is not a crime," ADF attorney Randall Wenger said. "If this man can have his free-speech rights ignored, then the same thing could happen to others. The court’s ruling is important for everyone in reinforcing that a college can’t single out religious speech for discrimination.”
