Iowa Supreme Court Sets Date for Gay 'Marriage' Case

Fifteen months after a renegade judge struck down Iowa's Defense of Marriage Act — which defines marriage as between one man and one woman — the state's highest court will decide the issue.

In August 2007, Polk County District Judge Robert Hanson ruled in favor of six same-sex couples who had sued for the right to "marry." Hanson stayed his own ruling, but not before one homosexual couple was "married."

The Iowa Supreme Court will hear the case Dec. 9.

"Thankfully, Iowa voters can do more than wait for their supreme court to decide this case," said Jenny Tyree, marriage analyst at Focus on the Family Action. "They can elect legislators in November who support the definition of marriage as one man and one woman.

"Out-of-state gay activists are flooding the state with financial support for the candidates who will carry the water for them on homosexual 'marriage.' "

Software mogul and homosexual activist Tim Gill is leading the way; he has given $30,000 to the Iowa Democratic Party this election cycle, according to public records.

"Iowa voters should be informed about where their candidates stand on the issue of marriage," Tyree said.
