Fireproof remained in the Top 10 at the box office for a third straight weekend. The pro-marriage film from the producers of Facing the Giants has earned an estimated $13.6 million.
Director Alex Kendrick said that while the movie may not be as technical as other Hollywood films, the message — marriage isn't always easy but it's worth fighting for — is an essential one.
Kirk Cameron, childhood star of the sitcom Growing Pains, volunteered his time to play the film's lead role. Cameron, who has been married for 17 years, said he wanted to be part of something that encouraged people to fight for marriage.
"This is a movie that gives people hope and inspires them that they can save their marriages — that love, in the end, won't fail, if you pour your heart and your time and your energy into the things that really matter," he told The Associated Press.
The Love Dare, a book featured in the movie, hit No. 8 on Amazon.com's best-seller list Thursday.
