Ten years ago, Focus on the Family launched a one-of-a-kind ministry to come alongside those who struggle with same-sex attraction or who have been affected by the issue of homosexuality.
On Saturday, Love Won Out returns to its home at Focus for its 52nd conference. God TV will capture the 10th anniversary celebration and broadcast it to about 125 million homes across the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia.
"I want to congratulate the Love Won Out team for a decade of tremendous outreach to families touched by the issue of homosexuality," said Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family. "I am pleased to say that no ongoing conference in our history has run as long as this one. Clearly the Lord has honored you with longevity because you are serving individuals close to His heart: the hurting, the despondent and those desperately searching for answers.
"It is my hope that … no individual or family will ever have to wrestle alone with these difficult matters."
Melissa Fryrear, director of Focus’ gender issues department, said the message is the same around the globe.
“Homosexuality affects men and women from different countries and cultures,” she said. "Yet the Bible’s message to them remains the same: change is possible.”
Love Won Out’s speakers — many of whom, like Fryrear, used to self-identify as gay or lesbian — present a message of hope using Scripture, research and their own stories.
Fryrear said the opportunity to work with God TV is a dream come true.
“I can’t think of a better way to commemorate Love Won Out’s first decade," she said, "than celebrating at home, while sharing our joy with the world.”
