Arkansas residents will have the opportunity next week to vote to protect children in adoptive and foster care in their state.
The Arkansas Unmarried Couple Adoption Ban, Initiated Measure 1, would prevent unmarried, cohabitating couples — either heterosexual or homosexual — from adopting or housing a child from the foster care system. If passed, the measure will ensure that vulnerable children have the best chance of growing up in the stability and security of a married home.
"Research shows that children raised in a two-parent, mother-father home perform the best in every important measure," said Jenny Tyree, marriage analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "Initiated Measure 1 will ensure that children have the best chance of being placed in a married home."
