Forty-seven children were rescued from commercial sexual exploitation during Operation Cross Country Two, a three-day national prostitution crackdown.
The FBI reported 642 adults were arrested last week in 29 cities. Law-enforcement officials targeted casinos, escort services, Web sites and truck stops.
Lisa Thompson, The Salvation Army's liaison for the abolition of sexual trafficking, said helping women to leave prostitution takes time and love.
“We kind of expect we should be able to walk up to a woman who’s been involved in prostitution and say, ‘Oh, we’re here to help you. Why don’t you come off the street now?’" she said. "It doesn’t work that way.”
