Just two senators voted against Secretary of State nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has promised to promote "women's rights" — namely, abortion.
Sen. David Vitter, R-La., and Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., cast the lone "no" votes Wednesday, citing Clinton's support for taxpayer-funded abortions overseas.
"I do not plan to slow up this nomination," DeMint said, "but I do find it difficult to support a nominee who I know will pursue policies so contrary to American sovereignty and the dignity of the human person."
Today, President Barack Obama was expected to reverse the Mexico City Policy, which means U.S. taxpayers would be forced to support organizations that perform or promote abortion overseas.
The policy was put in place by President Ronald Reagan, reversed by President Bill Clinton and reinstated by President George W. Bush.
