Take Action: Oppose Nomination of Pro-Abortion Sebelius

'The revelations that Gov. Sebelius owed back taxes and (has) deep financial ties to the abortion industry invite a serious question about her integrity.'

President Barack Obama's nominee to lead the Health and Human Services Department appears to be in hot water.

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has admitted tax problems, and failed to report $23,000 in campaign contributions from notorious abortionist George Tiller after being asked by the Senate Finance Committee to reveal such information.

If confirmed by the full Senate, the pro-abortion governor would be in a position to profoundly influence federal and state policies on abortion, rights of conscience, bioethics and end-of-life issues.

She also would be instrumental in distributing federal funding to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood.

"The revelation that Gov. Sebelius owed back taxes and now the additional disclosure of her deep financial ties to the abortion industry invite a serious question about her integrity," said Tony Perkins, president of FRC Action. "What else has she not told us? What other alliances are there?"

On life issues, Sebelius’ record speaks loud and clear. She has said herself that “certain inalienable rights are not applied in utero." (The Wichita Eagle)

As a state representative, she voted to weaken or eliminate parental-notification and informed-consent measures. And as governor, she has routinely opposed or vetoed abortion-accountability bills, including clinic-regulation legislation.

In 2008, she vetoed a measure that would have strengthened the state’s parental-notification law.

Perhaps most shocking is her support for Tiller, one of the only late-term abortionists in the country.

Sebelius honored Tiller and his friends and employees at the Governor’s Mansion in 2007.

Perkins said her connection with Tiller compromises her ability to carry out her duty to run the federal government's largest agency.

"We urge President Obama to withdraw this nomination and fulfill his campaign promises of establishing an ethical administration and uniting citizens around common goals," he said. "We also urge the U.S. Senate to reject this nomination and make clear that the American people expect a nominee who upholds strong ethical standards and has a record of accountability."
