Broadcast: Dr. Dobson Discusses Dangers of Hate-Crimes Bill

'What you can do is pray; pray for this great nation.'

Today, during the Focus on the Family daily broadcast, Dr. Dobson and a panel of experts express grave concern over hate-crimes legislation that recently passed in the U.S. House.

The dangerous bill, awaiting Senate consideration, would create a new class of crimes based on the victim's "actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. Those who speak out against homosexuality, including pastors, could face prosecution for "inciting" violence against gay individuals.

Even more concerning, the legislation could create special protection for pedophiles. Democrats voted down an amendment to the bill that would have excluded pedophilia from the definition of "sexual orientation."

Dr. Dobson said that in his 32 years on the air, he's never seen a time quite like the one we're facing now.

"Legislation that should shock the nation – if people were paying attention – is being rushed into law," he said. "Things are being done that will undermine the rule of law and seriously damage morality and decency in the culture."

Though the situation seems hopeless, Dr. Dobson urged listeners to remain in prayer.

"What you can do is pray; pray for this great nation," he said. "I urge you to hold up this country in a solemn petition for the nation because as I see it, there is no other answer."

Dr. Dobson's panel guests included Tom Minnery, senior vice president of government and public policy for Focus on the Family Action; Gary Bauer, president of American Values; Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tex.; and Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.
