Two years ago, the United Kingdom passed a law that forced adoption agencies to consider placing children with homosexual couples. An exemption that protected religious groups has just expired, forcing several faith-based adoption agencies to close rather than violate their convictions.
“This is something that’s radically opposed to Christian morality," said C.J. Doyle, executive director of the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts. "It would involve a very serious compromise of one’s principles."
He said the government wants to drive churches out of charity work, out of education and out of medicine.
Jenny Tyree, marriage analyst at Focus on the Family Action, said Americans need to keep a close eye on what’s happening overseas.
“Even though there were agencies that cater to homosexual adoption, that wasn’t enough," she said.
She said same-sex adoption jeopardizes the institution of family.
“We know from years of research," Tyree said, "that the best chance kids have for success in life is when they’re raised in a home with their biological, married mom and dad.”
