The more pro-family leaders learn about Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, the more concerns they have about her.
In 2005, Sotomayor commented that the “court of appeals is where policy is made.” And Obama already has promised to seat a justice who supports Roe v. Wade.
“I am troubled by President Obama’s use of the ‘empathy standard’ when selecting federal judges," said Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee.
“This view — that a judge should use his or her personal feelings to decide a case — stands in stark contrast to the impartiality we expect in the American courtroom.”
Obama has said he wants Sotomayor confirmed before the August recess. The Judiciary Committee has not announced when confirmation hearings will begin.
