Good News: Pro-Life Women Call on Congress to Oppose Taxpayer-Funded Abortion

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, will be joined by members of the U.S. House Pro-Life Women’s Caucus at a news conference in Washington on Tuesday morning.

They are calling for the preservation of the Dornan Amendment, which prevents taxpayer-funded abortions in the District of Columbia. President Barack Obama is urging Congress to repeal the amendment, as part of his 2010 budget proposal.

"These female members of Congress speak for the millions of pro-life women who know that abortion is not the answer to an unexpected pregnancy," said Carrie Gordon Earll, senior bioethics analyst at Focus on the Family Action.

"Polls show a majority of Americans oppose the use of their tax dollars to fund abortion, and reversing the Dornan Amendment will only lead to more abortion and heartache for women."

The news conference begins at 11:30 a.m. EST Tuesday, at the House Triangle, Southeast Plaza of the Capitol Complex. Speakers include Republican Reps. Jean Schmidt, Ohio, Virginia Foxx, N.C., Michele Bachmann, Minn., Mary Fallin, Okla., and Sue Myrick, N.C.
