The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote Wednesday on H.R. 2410, the Foreign Relations Authorization Act. Focus on the Family has written a letter in opposition to the funding bill, which establishes an Office for Global Women’s Issues that likely will promote abortion overseas.
“This office will be used to not only promote abortion worldwide, but also to stop pro-life laws," said Tom McClusky, vice president of government affairs at FRC Action
H.R. 2410 also would require the U.S. government to track violence in other countries that is "based on actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity.”
“People need to contact their representatives," McClusky said. "It is the role of the State Department to promote the United States abroad and not to promote an ideology that is abhorrent to the host countries.”
Proposed transportation benefits for same-sex partners of foreign service members were removed from the bill, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has indicated she will add the benefits anyway.
