Nation's 11th Largest Newspaper Profiles Focus CEO Jim Daly

Focus on the Family President and CEO Jim Daly was the subject of a Page 1 feature in Saturday's edition of the Denver Post, the 11th largest newspaper in the nation.

The story details Daly's unlikely journey from orphan to head of one of the most influential Christian ministries in the world. Much attention is given to his own family life as a husband and father of two boys, but the story also captures Daly's commitment to continue guiding Focus as a major voice for righteousness in the public square.

He says in the piece that his style may be different than that of Focus founder Dr. James Dobson, who handpicked Daly as his successor, but that in no way should be interpreted as a change in direction on the cultural stands the ministry takes – or the passion with which it takes them.

Daly has described his approach to public-policy debates as "having a cup of coffee with those who disagree with us."

"It means that we have to get to a point, not only as Christians but as a country, where we can disagree about important matters without being disrespectful," he told CitizenLink. "I love coffee, some might even say I'm hooked on it, so I use that expression as a real-world way of saying: 'Let's have a conversation, face-to-face, get to know each other and what informs our worldviews. And when we hit a subject on which we don't share the same values, let's talk about those issues with boldness and passion, yes, but with mutual respect, too.'

"God calls us to stand up for our convictions when they are rooted in His truths," Daly added. "But He also calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves – and those are not mutually exclusive exhortations."

In addition to appearing in the Denver Post, Daly is also launching a personal Twitter page today. Gary Schneeberger, the ministry's vice president of media and public relations, said Daly is a perfect fit for the kind of communication Twitter offers.

"At FocusOnTheFamily.com, you get in-depth content from all aspects of the ministry," he said. "At Jim's blog, you get Jim's personal reflections on the issues of the day and what's happening in his life and Focus'.

"What you'll see on Twitter are succinct updates on what Jim and Focus are up to. And, trust me, he's an interesting guy with a great sense of humor whose tweets will make for lively reading."
