Kevin Smith, executive director of Cornerstone Policy Research, is under attack from gay activists who want him removed from his new appointment at the New Hampshire Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
"Apparently some of the far left-wing groups in the state are not too happy about it because I came out and opposed same-sex marriage during that debate here in New Hampshire," Smith said.
The gay-activist group Granite State Progress claims Smith should be disqualified because of his views on the definition of marriage. The group has sent a letter to the commission's director calling for Smith's removal.
"Gay marriage advocates are once again demonstrating that tolerance in their minds is not a two-way street," said Maggie Gallagher, president of the National Organization for Marriage.
The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights conducts research and advises the president and Congress on civil-rights issues. Its members are appointed by the president and Congress.
