Jon & Kate Gosselin of the TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 ended weeks of speculation Monday night, announcing on air their plans to divorce. The media have been speculating for weeks whether the couple would split, and their decision to do so was a hot topic today on the Internet.
The Gosselins, parents to eight children they conceived during fertility treatments, renewed their marriage vows on their show less than 10 months ago. Glenn Stanton, Focus on the Family director of family formation studies, said there were warning signs all along that everyone should have seen.
"The main issues are not the issues here, but the bitterness that builds up year after year," he explained. "Nobody would throw away a car just because it stopped working. You take it to a professional. Doesn't a marriage, the foundation of a whole family, deserve as much attention?"
No married couple, he added, is immune to problems, and there's plenty of help available for hurting marriages.
