Children as young as kindergartners could be taking part in Chicago's upcoming gay-pride parade.
That's because parents at Nettelhorst Elementary School, according to school officials, have organized a visit to the annual event, scheduled for Sunday.
Candi Cushman, education analyst for Focus on the Family Action, called the gay-pride field trip an example of what a sad and frightening level our society has reached.
"People must understand that we're putting elementary-aged kids in a situation where they may be actually scared or find it disturbing," she explained. "We're talking about people dressing in drag, walking around half-nude. Is this really what we want to put elementary kids in the middle of?"
More than 500 students attend the school.
Cushman said no matter who organized the event, the school has a responsibility to families and the community.
"We're talking about a taxpayer-funded school that's allowing its name to be used in an adult, politicized, sexualized event," she said.
Dr. Michael Brown, director of the Coalition of Conscience in Charlotte, N.C., mas ministered often at gay-pride events. He said it's vital to share the right message.
"We're all about showing love and compassion to the homosexual community," he said. "But we very much resist homosexual activism and what really is a homosexual agenda."
