The Focus on the Family Action broadcast begins a two-part series today discussing health-care reform and other public policy concerns.
Dr. James Dobson interviews Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issue analysis at Focus on the Family Action and Tom Minnery, senior vice president of government and public policy.
“The president promised that there would not be any money for abortion in this health-care bill,” Dr. Dobson says, “and yet, the Democrats have voted down every measure to take abortion out of this legislation.”
“That’s correct,” says Earll. “Every time we’ve tried to explicitly ban abortion, that’s been voted down. This promises to be the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade… and it puts the government in the abortion industry.”
The Senate Finance Committee voted this week to move one of the proposals to the full Senate for consideration. Every Democrat on the committee and one Republican, Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, voted for the measure, which does not contain any provision to protect the conscience rights of health-care workers.
Minnery says those workers would have no recourse if they object to performing abortions on moral grounds.
“The president said on Sept. 9 that they would be in the bill,” he said. “They are not in any version of this bill.”
