Supporters of four new casinos in Ohio have contributed nearly $32 million between July and October to a ballot measure that would bring casinos to the states four largest cities.
Still, Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values, said family advocates should not give up.
"Bush was outspent six-to-one by Kerry and his supporters," he said. "We've come up with the theme that 'grassroots trumps money every time'."
He said gambling proponents are behind the initiative, despite a decline in gambling revenue reported in many states.
"Four times in the past, already, Ohio voters have voted on casino gambling and each time they have said 'No'," he said. "We will see come November, whether or not they say 'No' again."
