Focus President to Speak at Orphan Awareness Event

The hope is to create a catalytic experience for those who are unaware of the crisis.

Christians will gather across the country Sunday to raise awareness of the cause of the orphan. There are more than 140 million orphans worldwide.

"We want to be a voice for those who can't speak up for themselves, and encourage Christians to consider what role they may play," says Kelly Rosati, senior director for the sanctity of human life department at Focus on the Family.

Rosati oversees Wait No More, Focus on the Family's effort to help orphans in the U.S. find forever homes. Focus is teaming up with Steven Curtis Chapman, Family Life's Dennis Rainey and the Christian Alliance for Orphans for this weekend's Orphan Sunday. Focus President and CEO Jim Daly will speak at a joint event in Nashville, which will be broadcast live online.

"The hope is to create a catalytic experience for people who are unaware of the orphan crisis and get them to realize they are part of God's plan for the orphan," says Scott Hasenbalg, executive director of Chapman's Show Hope (formerly Shaohannah's Hope).

"For some, it will be adoption. For some, it will be a mission trip. For some, it will be just supporting those who are called to adopt."
