Several U.S. lawmakers have called for an investigation into lobbying done by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops over government funding of abortion in health care.
Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said the bishops have a right and a duty to raise concerns.
"They have a right because they are citizens," he said in a Newsweek/Washington Post blog post. "They have a duty because they are stewards of a great moral tradition in our country."
