1. What are the goals of the Susan B. Anthony List?
The Susan B. Anthony List was founded to give a voice to pro-life women in politics. So many people assume that all women support abortion on demand. The majority of American women support common sense restrictions on abortion. We're focused on the political process, because laws save lives. The Hyde Amendment alone—which prevents taxpayers from subsidizing abortion—has saved many lives since it was enacted in 1977.
2. January is Sanctity of Human Life Month. What are some of your plans?
I'm speaking to pro-life bloggers at the 3rd annual Blogs for Life Conference, urging them to use their influence to defend life in the national health care debate. With the rise of new media, their voices are so important to our success. We'll also be part of the Students for Life Conference. More than 1,000 pro-life college students are scheduled to come and learn how to make a difference for life on campus.
3. What is Women Speak Out: Abortion is NOT Health Care?
Women Speak Out: Abortion is NOT Health Care is our national campaign to mobilize people in critical states across the country. Pro-Life women across the country are coming together to urge their representatives and senators to oppose any legislation that funds abortion on demand. We're also calling on pro-life Americans to contact the district offices of their representatives and senators to urge them to defend life. Last week we went to the Midwest and this week we're headed down South.
4. Where is the United States in the pro-life debate?
Pro-lifers across America are so enthusiastic these days. It is so encouraging to see their hearts for women and the unborn! At every stop at our press tour in the Midwest last week, we were greeted by so many pro-lifers who are working hard to help women and families. Even more exciting is today's bursting-at-the-seams March for Life in Washington. Thousands of pro-life Americans traveled to Washington, D.C., to be a witness for life, and there is nothing more exciting than to see our pro-life friends filling the streets of our nation's capital.
5. Why is it important for pro-lifers to get involved in Sanctity of Human Life Month?
During the past year, poll after poll has shown that the majority of Americans are pro-life. This is great news! Sanctity of Human Life Month activities are a tangible way for pro-lifers to show their commitment to women and the preborn. Pro-life attitudes are meaningless without action, so I urge people to speak out, help women and defend the unborn in your own community.
