Former U.S. Sen. Dan Coats will be running for the Senate seat held by Evan Bayh.
Coats will be the fifth pro-life, pro-family Republican candidate to challenge the two-term senator.
Curt Smith, president of the Indiana Family Institute and former Coats staffer, said Coats will not shy away from social policy issues like the sanctity of human life.
"He will immediately be able to talk about issues," he said, "and take those issues straight to Sen. Bayh in a very difficult time for our nation."
Jim Banks, a state candidate and a Republican county chairman, said people are fed up with both parties.
"What I'm seeing," he said, "is a movement of like-minded conservatives who are rallying together outside of the party structure."
