Heavier than expected turnout in Pennsylvania today was met by problems with electronic voting systems in some areas of the state. The polls will be open an extra hour in at least one county: Lebanon.
Tom Shaheen, vice president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, was pleased at the high turnout. One factor, he said, is a pro-family outreach, in conjunction with Pennsylvania pastors to encourage churches to hold nonpartisan voter-registration drives.
"All told, we were successful in about 1,000 churches in the state," Shaheen said.
