Casey Defeats Santorum in Pennsylvania Senate Race

In Pennsylvania, Democrat Bob Casey Jr., the state treasurer and son of the late pro-life Democratic governor, is being projected a winner over Republican Sen. Rick Santorum.

First elected to the Senate in 1994, Santorum has been a long-time pro-family senator -- and leader of the Senate Republican caucus.

For weeks, Santorum had been behind in the polls in a state that voted for Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and John Kerry.

Democratic challenger Bob Casey is pro-life, but does not support the federal Marriage Protection Amendment to protect the institution from redefinition.
