Anne Northup, a five-term Republican incumbent, has lost the race to defend her U.S. House (Kentucky District 3) seat.
Northrup had a proven pro-life and pro-traditional track record. Among other things, she voted against stem-cell research that could destroy human embryos and she voted in favor of a constitutional amendment protecting man-woman marriage. She also holds a powerful seat on the House Appropriations Committee, which she used to advocate a billion-dollar project to build two new bridges in her state.
But that wasn’t enough to defend her seat.
With last-minute help from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, her opponent, Democrat John Yarmuth, pulled ahead in the last stretch, winning the seat with an estimated 51 percent.
That’s not good news for those fighting for the lives of the preborn: Yarmuth is a board member of Planned Parenthood in Louisville. He also supports gay marriage. He is also the founder of Louisville Eccentric Observer, for which he wrote articles and columns. Some of his articles praised Canada’s decriminalization of marijuana and recommended that people consider lowering the drinking age to 18.
