Republican: Alan Schlesinger: 10%
Democrat: Ned Lamont: 40%
Independent: Joe Lieberman: 50%
Precincts Reporting: 99%

Lamont, a businessman, was nominated with 52 percent in a two-way primary. Schlesinger is a former state representative. Liberman is the incumbent Democrat, who is running as an independent.

Why we're watching: Schlesinger supports parental-involvement laws for minors seeking abortion. Lamont supports abortion and says he will fight to make the morning-after pill available over the counter, to make emergency contraception available to all rape victims, and will support the nomination and appointment of pro-choice judges.
Regarding same-sex unions, Lamont said, “I am proud that Connecticut was one of the first states to legalize civil unions and remain hopeful that we will be one of the first to enact full marriage equality." He would oppose a federal marriage amendment. Lieberman supports abortion and is endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America as well as Planned Parenthood. Regarding same-sex unions, Lieberman said, "Although I am opposed to gay marriage, I have also long believed that states have the right to adopt for themselves laws that allow same-sex unions. I will oppose any attempts by the right wing to change the Constitution." Regarding abortion he said, “I have always been a strong defender of a woman’s right to choose and am proud of the endorsements of NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood. Though I was very encouraged by the Federal Drug Administration’s recent approval of Plan B contraception, I know that Roe v. Wade continues to come under assault by those seeking to undermine a woman’s right to choose. Rest assured that I will continue to fight to defend this constitutionally-protected right.”  Lieberman also supports expansion of embryonic stem-cell research.
