Republican: Katherine Harris: 38%
Democrat: Bill Nelson: 60%
Precincts Reporting: 99%
First elected in 2000, Nelson, who was unopposed in the primary, is seeking his second full term. Harris, a congresswoman, was nominated with 50 percent in a four-way primary.
Why we're watching: While the pundits do not include Sen. Bill Nelson's Florida Senate seat in the list of most competitive, many pro-family residents are tuned into Nelson-Harris battle. Republican congresswoman Katherine Harris won her four-way primary with 50 percent of the vote. On the major social issues, Nelson and Harris differ greatly. Nelson voted against the Marriage Protection Amendment while Harris supported it; Nelson regularly scores 0 percent with the National Right to Life, while Harris is a consistent 100-percent pro-life lawmaker.

Dist. 16
Republican: Joe Negron: 48%
Democrat: Tim Mahoney: 50%
Precincts Reporting: 99%
Mahoney, a venture capitalist, ran unopposed in the primary. Negron, a state representative, was picked by state party leaders to replace Foley.
Why We’re Watching: After inappropriate communications with congressional pages surfaced recently, six-term Rep. Mark Foley resigned. Republicans chose state representative Joe Negron as their nominee in place of Foley. However, Foley’s name – and not Negron’s – will appear on the November 7 ballot. The race for this formerly safe Republican district has quickly become one of the most competitive in the country.
