Republican: Michael Bouchard: 41%
Democrat: Debbie Stabenow: 57%
Precincts Reporting: 99%

First elected in 2000, Stabenow is seeking a second full term. She was unopposed in the primary. Bouchard is a former state senator and state representative. The Oakland County sheriff was nominated with 61 percent of the vote in a two-way primary.

Why we're watching: In 2000, Sen. Stabenow defeated her Republican challenger by just 1 percent.  In 2004, Michigan passed a state marriage-protection amendment that Stabenow opposed. She also voted against the federal Marriage Protection Amendment, which Republican nominee Bouchard supports.
