Dist. 1
Republican:
Heather Wilson: 50%
Democrat: Patricia Madrid: 50%
Precincts Reporting: 99%

Elected in 1998, Wilson, who was unopposed in the primary, is seeking a fifth term. Madrid, currently the state attorney general, was unopposed in the primary.

Why we're watching: This Albuquerque-based swing district is closely-watched contest between Republicans and Democrats.  While challenging incumbent Heather Wilson, Democrat candidate Patricia Madrid has articulated her “pro-choice” positions and support of the homosexual agenda.  She opposes the Marriage Protection Amendment, which incumbent Heather Wilson voted for, and while serving as Attorney General, advocated special transgender rights.  Five-term congresswoman Wilson voted in favor of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act and a ban on partial-birth abortion.
