Bredesen Keeps Tennessee Gubernatorial Seat

Incumbent Phil Bredesen, D-Tenn., won the governor’s race with 66 percent of the vote, according to CNN exits polls. His Republican challenger, Jim Bryson, supported a constitutional amendment to preserve marriage and was decidedly pro-life.

Bredesen is pro-choice and opposed an amendment to the state Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. He has recently said he would vote “yes” for a marriage protection amendment but considered it unnecessary.
