Dems Sweep Gubernatorial Races in Key States

by Jessica Stollings

As last night’s ballots were collected, all eyes fell on federal races, but most of the legislation that affects you on a day-to-day basis originates at the state level.

As predicted by polling and concurrent with the rest of the evening’s turn of events, Democrats dominated gubernatorial races in several key states like Arkansas, Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Ohio, shifting years of Republican supremacy in the Governors Mansions. Mona Passignano, State Issues Analyst with Focus on the Family Action, says the liberal governor’s influence could be muted if conservatives get vocal.

“We’re all going to have to be very diligent to speak to our legislators in our states to make sure they understand what issues are important to us and to make sure that these guys are voting the right way and that includes those governors. They are still answerable to the people even though they’ve all won new terms.”

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Texas Governor Rick Perry retained their position, representing a dwindling Republican influence.
