YMCA Summer Program takes at-risk kids on field trip to Planned Parenthood

by Kim Trobee

As part of the tour, young teens in Machester, New Hampshire heard a 2-3 minute brief of what the clinic does, and learned how to access its services if needed.

The city's program for at-risk kids called STAY works in conjunction with the school district to provide middle school students with the support they need to remain in school. As part of that program, the kids were taken to eight community organizations including the abortion provider. City Mayor Frank Guinta is concerned.

“There were about 40 kids, 20 of which engaged with some protesters who were at Planned Parenthood and it came to my attention obviously after the fact, and it’s somewhat caused a disturbance, I think, to parents in our community here.”

Guinta is also the Chairman of the school board and admits the field trip was a bad idea, especially for kids ages 11-14.

“It has great concerns for me. I’ve already stated that this will not happen in the future and the school district has also said that this kind of activity will not be condoned by the school district in the future.”

The YMCA agrees. Officials there turned down requests for an interview, but President Hal Jordan said in a statement that future tours would “not include Planned Parenthood.” Darlene Pawlik of New Hampshire Right to Life isn’t satisfied and points the finger at “Y” Program Director, Joyce Palmer.

“I think the woman has poor judgment and I will be requesting her resignation.”

The school board will meet soon to discuss any further action or concerns.
