Abortion: A Greater Crime

by Josh Montez

DOJ statistics show African Americans are the victims of nearly half of all murders. Pro-life leaders in the black community say there’s a way to buck the trend; it involves reviving our culture of death, one pre-born at a time.

Justice Department figures show 49 percent of murder victims in 2005 were African Americans. Here’s another shocking statistic. Since abortion was legalized, more than 14 million African-American babies have been killed, according to the National Right to Life Committe. Alveda King with Priests for Life thinks the two trends are connected.
“I think, in a nation that says it’s okay to kill your children in mass, you’re going to have many other crimes; domestic crimes, theft, all that kind of thing.”

Day Gardner of the National Black Pro-Life Union says 37 percent of abortions are on African American women; another disproportionate number.

“Abortion is the number one killer of black Americans. Abortion kills more black people than heart attacks, accidents, cancer, violent crimes and all other deaths combined.”

She says as long as America allows abortion, it sends a message to young people that life is worthless.

“If we want to stop the killing and the senseless crime, it’s going to have to start from the very beginning. We have to say that all people are worthy of life. Every single American is deserving of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Gardner believes stopping abortion will stop the cycle of murder in the Black community.
