Now those folks have some recognition from Golden Aires, a group for couples that have been married for fifty years or more. Evelyn Tyree married Lawrence 65 years ago during an uncertain time in our nation’s history.
“He gave me my engagement ring one night and the next day Pearl Harbor was bombed.”
But not even a world war could snuff out their love. 65 years later they are still together and enjoying their great-grandchildren. Evelyn reveals the secret to a lifelong marriage.
“Certainly the fundamental strength of a long marriage is to be in love in the first place; truly in love with each other. We have been church-goers all our lives and I think that makes a difference too.”
That message of love and longevity is what Ken and Barbara Boucher hope to pass along with the Golden Aires.
“We arrived at the name because we celebrated our golden anniversary; our 50th year with friends and family and we’re heirs of a wonderful life of 50 years together. We hope that we will demonstrate to younger generations the importance of making good choices in the beginning.”
Golden Aires hopes to develop seminars and support groups that will encourage marriage. It might even get involved in legislation to support traditional marriage.
