As the founding fathers of the evangelical movement give way to a new generation, topics like creation care, social justice, and immigration are vying for attention. Bishop Harry Jackson of the High Impact Leadership Coalition says they should not take their eye off the ball.
“Clearly life and family must take the priority. We find that that’s the priority, we feel, of the scriptures.”
It’s being called a renewal by many but with so many topics vying for attention; the essentials could get drowned out according to David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network.
“I think the real question is at the end of the day, how much will the life and marriage issues get diluted in the process? I think that’s a big concern with some of the leaders on the Religious Right.”
Addressing this week’s National Religious Broadcasters conference, Focus on the Family Chairman Dr. James Dobson asked, “Who in the next generation will be willing to take the heat” of battle. Carrie Gordon Earll of Focus on the Family Action thinks help in on the way.
“There is a whole generation of young people who understand the threats to the family through abortion, through attacks on the sanctity of human life and marriage who are going to be equipped for these leadership roles.”
Dr. Dobson is hopeful. In fact, he said it was possible he was, at that moment, addressing some of tomorrow’s evangelical leaders.
