According to an Associated Press analysis, a third of young Republicans oppose abortion in all circumstances. The data for the analysis was taken from exit polls of the 2008 primaries. Values rate ten points higher among the under thirty crowd, while those over thirty look to experience in a candidate. Jason Mattera of the Young America’s Foundation says the evidence they see with their own eyes convinces them.
“For them to hear someone say, ‘Well, that’s just derided as a fetus,’ or dehumanized as a fetus and say there’s a right for an abortion to take place and murder that innocent life, they’re very skeptical of the idea. They can see firsthand how they have been given the opportunity of life.”
In addition to their pro-life leanings, up and coming Republicans embrace the total package of conservatism according to Jessica Colon of the Young Republican National Federation.
“Young Republicans support the three legged stool of the Republican Party; they want a strong national defense, they believe in fiscal conservatism and they believe in the values that the Republican Party has always held dear.”
And he says those pillars should be secure for generations to come.
“Conservatives can rest assured that our message is alive and well in our Republican youth and we see it on a daily basis in the Young Republican National Federation.”
Before he left the race, young Republicans were nine percentage points more likely than the older set to vote for Mike Huckabee.
