In 2005, nearly 265,000 abortions were performed by Planned Parenthood. That number is up by nearly 25,000 in 2006. In addition, Doug Scott with Life Decisions International says for the first time, the abortion giant raked in over 1 billion dollars in revenue.
“Like sale of their condoms—everything they sell, some abortions, from grants of all levels government. And it could be a service grant where they provide a service grant for government like in Title X, or it could just be a general donation.”
Jen Giroux with Women Influencing the Nation questions Planned Parenthood’s tax-exempt status.
“They certainly are, for all intents and purposes, a for-profit business. And what jumped out at me more than ever was the amount of our tax dollars – one third of their budget subsidized by our hard-earned tax-payers money for people that completely disagree with killing unborn children.”
Randall O’Bannon with National Right to Life says the surplus frees up Planned Parenthood to be political activists.
“They are very proud of the fact that they helped defeat the pro-life ballot initiative in South Dakota and other places where they had pro life laws. They really feature the fact that they went to the Supreme Court and fought against the partial birth abortion ban.”
Planned Parenthood has reported a steady increase in the number of abortions being performed over the last 5 years. For Family News in Focus, I’m Josh Montez.
