Scientists at the Massachusetts based Whitehead Institute are seeing an improvement in mice when “reprogrammed” skin cells are injected into the animals. One of the primary researchers who witnessed the event admits using the available, healthy cells greatly reduces the controversy spawned by embryonic stem cells. Dr. Patrick Johnston, Founder of Association of Pro-Life Physicians is delighted, too.
"This print highlights the point that ethical researchers have been making for years that we do not need to exploit the carcasses of abortion victims or human embryos to discover medical breakthroughs. With this breakthrough at least we’ll be able to more easily silence the pragmatists who justify the killing in the womb."
He says this kind of response in a lab that doesn’t harm life is the major positive.
"The potential for research such as this is vast without doing unethical things."
Usually, mainstream media sources tout embryonic cells as the panacea and promote them for funding. But, Media Research Center Director Bob Knight says this news article is a truthful information breakthrough for researchers.
"A lot of media reporting on scientific issues is biased; the reporters tend to follow a liberal line. But the Boston Globe has broken through that typical stance and come up with a very informative article about some exciting possibilities for adult stem cells. This article is a breath of fresh air."
While the process still contains some of the scientific problems associated with embryonic stem cell research, this provides an ethical source of embryonic-like stem cells.
