The law criminalizes any physical harm or threats used with the intention of coercing an abortion. But Georgette Forney, who founded the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, says this law can have a far-reaching effect.
“This is not an abortion related bill. This is a woman related bill.”
Forney hopes this law prompts the nation’s lawmakers to take notice, and she believes this is an issue people on both sides of the aisle can agree on.
“You know all of the the presidential candidates are are talking about the fact that abortion isn’t a good thing, and we should have fewer of them… we’ll I think that we need to take some of these kinds of laws and put them at the forefront of our discussions, because this is where we can find common ground.”
Doug Barth with Cornerstone Institute of Idaho agrees.
“This is a very strong pro life victory in Idaho and also is a strong pro life victory nation-wide because of its uh impact."
Forney says this law is also “pro-woman.”
“This is about women. And … and protecting women, and protecting them from domestic abuse."
Barth says Cornerstone also helped get another bill in passed in Idaho that as of January first of next year, requires abortion providers to inform women considering an abortion information that includes "photographs of a fetus in its various various stages of development onto a state sponsored web site.”
He says abortion providers would have to give mothers information about this web site.
