Arnold Opposes Cal. Marriage Amendment
Schwarzenegger’s reversal prompted a response from Everett Rice with the California Family Council.
“We are very disappointed that the governor appeared to be 'flip flopping' on this issue.”
Rice adds the “governator” had threatened to use his veto pen on this issue.
“He has stated on several occasions during … during the last few years in his uh vetoing of 'same-sex' marriage legislation that he supported the will of the people."
The California Family Council is a leader in the Protect Marriage Dot Com Coalition, which has gathered more than one million signatures to place the marriage initiative before voters in November.
“Regardless of what he does, uh we’re… we’re going to be focused on getting the petition signed and getting the initiative on the ballot to preserve marriage.
Mona Passignano is the State Issues Analyst for Focus on the Family Action. And she’s optimistic.
“I think that the people of California are going to uphold Prop 22… they are going to uphold this marriage amendment when it gets to the ballot box in November.
Rice points out Californian’s voted on this issue years ago when they approved Proposition 22.
“Actually the question about the definition of marriage in California was decided in 2000 when the voters voters of California stated with sixty one percent of the vote that they believe uh in support of marriage being between a man and a woman.”
The CFC is hopeful the governor will reconsider his position.
