Some ten minutes into his speech dozens of lesbian activists climbed through windows, began yelling and stormed the podium. Sorba tried shout above the melee that he’d return to talk to those who wanted to listen in twenty minutes.
Campus security did very little, if anything, to stop the disruption. Smith College’s Christin Cole says the school’s president, Carol Christ sent out an email to the community the next day.
Sorba points out the irony of people who cry out for tolerance and diversity drowning out his message.
“They essentially wrapped their hands around the eyes and ears of the students who came there to hear another point of view.”
Khris Mineau with the Massachusetts Family Institute says pro-family leaders welcome dialogue from the other side.
“We have allowed our opponents ample opportunity to speak unhindered because we want their message to be heard so that we know where they’re coming from.”
Oddly enough, Sorba says all this attention from gay activists trying to silence him is actually helping to promote his message.
