Ad Challenging Sen. Casey’s Abortion Voting Record Debuts Tomorrow

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Focus on the Family and the Pennsylvania Family Institute are launching an ad campaign in four Pennsylvania newspapers this week that questions U.S. Sen. Bob Casey’s two pro-abortion votes. During last year's campaign, Casey presented himself to voters as following in the footsteps of his father, staunch pro-life Gov. Bob Casey Sr.

The ad asks whether Sen. Casey is a "prodigal senator," and challenges him to "come home" to his pro-life roots.

“Senator Casey’s campaign led many voters to believe he would continue his father’s pro-life tradition," said Pennsylvania Family Institute President Michael Geer. "Yet he chose to support abortion by voting to give millions of taxpayer dollars to domestic and international abortion providers. Pennsylvania voters have the right to ask how those votes were 'pro-life,' and we encourage voters to ask the senator to remain true to his roots.”

The ad specifically addresses Casey’s vote against the “Mexico City Policy,” which prevents U.S. tax dollars from being used to fund groups that provide abortions oversees, and his vote against banning U.S. tax dollars from going to domestic family-planning groups that perform abortions.

“The men and women who elected Senator Casey to represent them object to having their tax money fund or promote abortion," said Peter Brandt, senior director of Government and Public Policy for Focus on the Family. "Senator Casey knows this and has nevertheless chosen to vote against the wishes of the citizens he represents.”

To view the ad, which is slated to run in the Pittsburgh Post-GazetteLancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era, Harrisburg Patriot News, and the Philadelphia Catholic Standard and Times on Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, visit /pdfs/11-27-07_casey_ad.pdf.
